Applications to be considered each year should be in the hands of the Society not later than the 1st August.
Submissions should include a CV; an outline of the ideas, form and instruments proposed for the composition; and a CD/DVD giving various examples of performed works.
The Commission awards a cash performance fee of $1500, and the Society provides the fees for the first performance of the commissioned work. The work should be a chamber work of approximately fifteen minutes in length, for solo, or any combination of players (up to 4). Fees will be discussed with the recipient of the Award each year.
The Commission is usually performed for the first time at the Society's October concert, which would be held in St. Peter’s Parish Hall, Eastern Hill on the first Sunday in the month, at 2 pm.
Any enquiries should be directed to the Sarah Cuming, Ph (03) 9380 2434
The Society is grateful to the Robert Salzer Foundation for their generous contribution to this Commission.
History of the Lyrebird Music Society’s Commission
The Commission for Composition dates as a separate award only from 1996. For some years prior to that The Australian Natives’ Association through the A.N.A. Friendly Society, later the Australian Unity Friendly Society sponsored the writing of an original musical composition organised and presented by the Society – this was terminated in October 1994.
